KVK, Poonch  celebrated Mahila Kissan Diwas

Krishi vigyan Kendra Poonch of SKUAST-Jammu under the patronage of Directorate of Extension celebrated Mahila Kissan Diwas at KVK Poonch which is being celebrated across India on 15th October 2017. The programme was conducted under the guidance of ADEE, SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. The programme was attended by more than 120 rural women of Block Haveli. Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Pardeep Sharma thanked the farming community and women farmers for playing a significant role towards agriculture. He said that Govt of India had launched several schemes for the farmers in the last three years which include PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil Health card, Farmer first, Mera Gano Mera Gaurav etc.  He informed that Union Agriculture Ministry under Modi Government was celebrating ‘Mahila Kisan Diwas’ or the Day of Women Agriculturists for the first time ever in India. He applauded the role of women in domestic works, social life and agriculture. He acknowledged the vast role of farm women in hilly areas and stressed the need for adopting new technologies for income enhancement in agriculture and allied activities.  He also applauded the role KVK and encouraged Sr. Scientist and Head for organizing more programme on farm women in future. Dr Ajay Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Poonch applauded the role of farm women in agricultural development viz. crop production, livestock production, Backyard poultry, horticulture, post harvest operations, agro/ social forestry and fisheries. He said that agriculture still remained the main occupation for most of the rural people and contribution of women in agriculture has increased in many families where male population has migrated to towns and other countries for earning livelihood. The women contributed more in weeding, harvesting, storage, livestock rearing and poultry in present day agriculture than the male counterparts. He also discussed about some drudgery reducing farm machinery viz. hand hoe and maize shellers suitable for hill agriculture for farm women.  Dr Muzafar Mir, scientist, KVK, Poonch  elaborated the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch to reach out the farm women with various state and central government schemes for their socio-economic benefits time to time and informed them about the various Govt schemes.
